Hi sator,
There is a fine profile of Boelcke's E.IV 123/15 in Greg VanWyngarden's "Early German Aces of WWI" from Osprey. It is very probable that the wheel discs were painted in black, white and red thirds. Boelcke also flew a later model E.IV, which at some point had a six-pointed star on each wheel. Both aircraft had a stylized plaque of his initials attached to the face of the engine cowling.
