oh yeah, played the game, but in some respects find it disappointing compared to the original. I really had a blast editing those mission recorder files because it helped me develop scenes for some comic books I'm working on. The new AI flight generator is sorta random, but they exaggerated the amount of variety within mission replays and between sortie to sortie. The fact that your AI wingman can accumulate scores and get decorations is kinda cool--so I like to stick myself at the back of the flight and watch my guys chew up on the enemy (if I'm lucky)--and then watch out for approaching squadrons since if you're the active CO of a flight there is a tendency for your wingies to just sit there and stare!
I do wish there was a sim where your flights could be grounded due to weather, where the bandits didn't flutter across the sky like dying leaves in october--far too many bandits at weird times of the year, but this is supposed to be a game. It would be cool to actually see snow smothering the ground and have the ice or mud ground your flight. I guess there are cloud layers and the like here--but since I don't have the 3d card I just get the proverbial 'top layer'. I really miss the ability of running away from a flight of 9 SE5s from 74 squadron if I'm stuck in one of those wretched Fokker Triplanes.
other oddities like the Seimens Shuckardt D3 and D4 or the Fokker D8 were kinda cool--and I was really hoping they'd throw in the Sopwith Salamander and open things up for flying two-seater attack missions in Brisfits or Halberstadts-- even though I know the air war was supposedly just cosmetic-- I wish it were more closely tied in action to the events in the actual conflict--rather than a long series of CAPs and offensive patrols. Another example would be strafing trains moving en route behind enemy lines-- I know that's obscure--but I was hoping for more of mobile infrastructure behind the lines-- of course all of this would screw up the frame-rate and make it unplayable for normal human beings who don't have a Pentagon budget to spend on flight-sims-- but these were some of the things I was hoping for.
Jarrod (obviously)
PS, you don't really need to put that message in all caps-- unless you just started playing it and want everyone to know how excited you really are.
