closing speeds and engagement times throughout are pretty big-- it still might take a good minute or so in real time to actually engage a known enemy flight even if you've got an altitude advantage and you're heading towards them. This is fairly indicative of what it must have been like at the time--some planes are just better than others--I mean if your chasing down a Roland 2-seater with anything like an altitude advantage in a Nieuport 11 you'd better hope that his base isn't too far behind enemy lines--I made that mistake once or twice. The SE5 will simply catch anything, even Spads-- I actually prefer the Albatros series at this point because they seem to me, to provide the most stable gun platform--with some practical manueverability-- I love the speed of the Spads but they're stiff-necked beasts when it comes to aiming--you have to know your shot--but the SE5 tends to wiggle a lot--that much I don't like about it--and is there anybody out there who actually prefers to fly the Fokker Dr. I, and if so, why? I just wanted to see if there is any agreement on whether this plane is just plain awful or not-- I can only score about a third of the victories that I get in any other plane-- I actually get better scores in the first generation scouts like the Moranes, N11s, and Eindeckers--because I can actually hold their noses to the target. Turning be damned, I want guns I can aim-- a good diving pass followed by an Immelmann if the cost is clear for a second run--if that burns him, great... if I had to pick one attribute for a fighter in WWI speed would be my first choice--because rate of climb usually goes with it, and from there you can pick and choose your engagements--and that's what makes you into an ace, and more importantly keeps you alive-- Camels are fun if you've got somewhere to run but lack the horsepower for my taste
so-- yeah, everything is going to be 'slow' in this game if you're used to Bf109s and Spitfires... or it could be you have a slow computer-- or that you need to trim the graphics to improve your frame-rate. It does say that performance will vary depending on the hardware in your syst.
