Ginger...BROWN,man,BROWN!!I see it this way:
1)C.S.Lewis(or was it A.G.Lee???hmm.) in his memoir states "our planes were chocolate brown"..a direct,contemporary descrip.
2)he flew in them.

Proof enough for me.
