is Richard P. Hallion's "Taking Flight, Inventing the Aerial Age from Antiquity through the First World War." Marvelous read, in which he dispells several myths of early aviation, one of which, was (is) that WWI Aviation was a mere sideshow. Haven't got to that part, yet, but as to the sheer readability of the book, the caption of the illustration of the fallen Icarus reads: "Icarcus on the rocks, shaken, not stirring." I ask you, can this guy write, or what??

He sounds pretty funny. Is the content of the book solid?

I don't thimk it's intended to be a definitive discourse on the subject, but contains a lot I didn't know about the history of flight. However, it IS immensely readable, which I think is it's strong point.

Is this another book based on myth, opinion, and forgotten memories?

I mean, was he there for Icarus?
