Thanks to the Aerodrome, I've learned that the Australian War Memorial is a great online source for photographs. Does anyone know of similar collections that are accessible online?

Try the National Archives of Australia, too. They are increasingly digitising material, usually upon request. They have Recordsearch, and Photosearch, where the photo may merely be indexed, so that you know it exists, but not necessarily digitised.
The B2455 (files on WW1 servicemen) series are the most frequented. Test it and see; www.naa.gov.au
as an example, pick Fred Collins. B2455.

University of Kansas has quite a good online archive. Some of the pic you will have seen before, some will be unfamiliar.
http://www.lib.byu.edu/estu/wwi/ Scroll down to images (iv) and select photographs.

PeterL,
Wow, that KU site is sweet! Thanks. But I am embarrassed. Here I am, a native Jayhawker, and I had to be introduced to such a great, formerly local resource by a Brit! :-[

PeterL,

Another Oz site is the NSW State Library site Picman database. Mostly private collection data. www.sl.nsw.gov.au/picman/
find Subject, then ......you will be spoilt for choice and lost in to-ing and fro-ing. Not a lot on WW1, but that was not the original question.

As an Australian living in Canberrra (where the war memorial is) I recently took a trip. I was very suprised with the amount of aircraft on display. However, most of the aircraft are from ww2, and have limited ww1 aircaft infomation. But still a good and educational trip.

Hmmmmm. Curious. It definitely was the University of Kansas, I've had it listed as such on my links page for a year or three, but the address has changed and I now get a redirect. Don't know the background but it looks like you're right.

Try the Treloar Centre for a bit more WW 1 content.
