Does the following description ring any bells?

type unknown - painted grey with narrow black stripe around fuselage.

it was obviously a scout as it had 2 guns firing forward. It was claimed shot down and observed to crash in a field at the edge of a wood, just to the north of Becelaere on the 21st July 17.

Jasta 7 lost a pilot on this date, but they started using the color, black, at some time during this period. Were the colors of any other scouts in the same combat mentioned?

Wings,

the German machine was on its own, as was Reid at the time.

It was fairly unusual for Reid to comment on colour schemes.

Gunnar,

I'm assuming shot down and seen to crash probably meant a forced landing, nothing more.
