Hello all,

I have recently acquired a wooden prop which is
reputed to come from an SE-5A. The markings on the side read:

AB662 C RH

G1199 N53

D2400

P1750

Hispano Suiza

Wolsley Viper

Can anyone decode these numbers and letters for me please?

Also the prop is unusual in that the front and back of the Hub area are painted with green paint- is this a squadron colour?

Scottie,

The RH stands for Right Handed prop, important because the SE5a had a mixture of engines which drove either a right or a left.

The D is diametre, or the length overall of the prop.

The P is the length of the prop which is actually pitched.

Somewhere I have a spreadsheet, courtesy of Nick Forder, of all the prop drawing numbers and the aircraft to which they belong.

IIRC the Viper and the Hispano Suisa 150hp used a right handed prop. The HS geared engine used a left....but I may stand corrected...Dan-San is your man for the SE5

regards

Darryl

Shooter:
You are doing fine, the only thing I can add is, A.B.662 is the part number for propeller andit was used on the S.E.5a. Other part numbers are:
S.E.5; T.28051, A.D.662, 150hp Hispano-Suiza and 150 hp Hisso built by Wolseley and the 200hp Viper, both engines used both props.
S.E.5a; T.28096, 4 bladed prop, L.H., 200 hp geared Hisso. 200 hp Wolseley W.4A Viper, A.B. 662. 2 bladed R.H..
Blue skies,

Yes- I still have not found a "crush-plate" - aka propeller hub yet. If you know of a possible source I would be very interested to hear about it.

Thanks again.
