Hello Folks,

I am not sure many of you know that the Fokker-Team-Schorndorf has started a long time ago to establish an online archive of downloadable contemporary documents related to the development of German aviation up to 1920.

I must admit that I was quite lazy with the ongoing updating of this archive and that I have not done a lot during the last year.

This was just because I was (and still am) busy with other things. Apart from that I did not get my damned new scanner work together with my damned new computer .

Finally I made it and will now resume to update the archive and to make documents and photographs available as downloads.

I thought this might be of interest to those of you who want to go deeper in the subject of research. It is more efficient to use real source material than just to quote others.

So here we go:

We Germans started in 1917 to concentrate on the developing of standardisations for parts needed for the production of aircraft. For this there was an institution established that was called "Normenausschuss der Flugzeugindustrie" or "Norm Commitee of the Aircraft Industry". This commitee developed norm sheets that have been called "FLUGNORMEN" or "Aviation Norms"

We have some 60 of these norms in our archive and will make them available as downloads in steps. The first installment available now covers the following set:

Flugnorm 1
Cables

Flugnorm 2
Bracing Cables

Flugnorm 3
Control Cables

Flugnorm 4
Sheet Metals

Flugnorm 5
Streamlined Tubes

Flugnorm 6
Screw Bolts

Flugnorm 7
Screw Heads

Flugnorm 8
Nuts

Flugnorm 9
Thimbles

Flugnorm 10
Wood Screws and Pins

The above shown sheets are available at our FTS ARCHIVE - MEMBERS SECTION

Members familiar with the poor archive system ( blame me for that and no one else&#33 will find the link under "ARCHIVE OF DOCUMENTS - INDUSTRY", which will be a new section there.

The download contains each of the above shown 10 sheets as JPG files and one PDF File with all the sheets included. File size is about 12MB.

The next installment will cover sheets 11-20. Hope to get this established soon......

Enjoy!

Achim

P.S. I forgott to mention That I request a one time fee of $ 10 for the permanent access to this archive section. This is just to cover my expenses with the web hosting. You can apply here: MEMBER APPLICATION

Achim, did these standards lead to or evolve into the current D.I.N. (Deutsche Industrie Normal) standards that we all know and love?

Hello Mike!

Merry Christmas to you and your spouse and the rest of your family!

As a matter of fact the "Normenausschuss der Flugzeugindustrie" was subsequently a sub branch of what was called the "Normenausschuss der deutschen Industrie" (Norm Comitee of the German Industry). This was abreviated by the letters NADI. It was officially founded on December 22nd 1917.

The name was later, in 1926, changed from NADI to DNA (Deutscher Normenausschuss or German Norm Commitee.

In 1975 the name was again changed to DIN. DIN does not stand for "Deutsche Industrie Norm" as many Germans also do believe, but for "Deutsches Institut für Normung e.V." or "German Institute for Standardisation"

Indeed, many of the Norms already established with the NADI or in this case with the NAdFI have been taken over without major changes by the DNA and later by the DIN.

Needless to say that I can not tell which early norms have been changed or removed or replaced

Hope you like the postings. I will show up with much more in the future here and will of course also establish better quality downloads on our site.

Enjoy!

Achim

Alexandra is a bit angry right now.

Do you know that same thing? When your wife insists you have to stay in bed when you are ill? It is terrible! It is so boring doing nothing.

Well I took out the laptop and worked on some book projects when I recalled that I have started this topic some time ago and that I should update it again.

So here we go!

Flugnorm 33

Flugnorm 34
