Some time ago it was mentioned on this forum that the Germans also used a three colour scheme of pale-green/dark-green/MAUVE.

I would like to know the following:

Which manufacturers applied this scheme?

Which aircraft types were painted with this scheme?

Was it used in addition to or instead of the green/MAUVE 2 colour scheme?

During which period was this scheme applied? (ca. mid 1917?)

Any info is highly appreciated.

Don't you mean, lt. grn, dk grn and venetian red (red brown)? 'Usually' appied with a Binks air gun at factory levels. late 1916 -early 1917. Some early examples employeed two applied colors with the third being the untouched CDL. There were variations. The red brown was found to be a poor camouflage colour. Dan San Abbott knows the whole story. 'Mauve' didn't come into use until mid summer 1917. When red brown was ordered to be discontinued in early 1917 the 'open area that it had covered was occupied byt more of the lt. grn or dk. grn. When mauve came into use the lt. grn was dropped as well. While this is generally true there were exceptions to this rule about just when this came into compliance with Armee orders.

I am really referring to lt-green/dk-green/MAUVE (or lilac) and not Venetian red/red-brown

Had another search with our excellent search engine and this time found the thread I probably had in mind, when posting my question:

See second message by Dan-San Abbott under 3. a. v.!

Btw, you brought up additional info, which is really new to me: The combination with CDL on some early examples.

Tks coop!
