Does anyone have any idea of how the lower aileron cables were rigged on the Jenny? Cheers! John.

John, to what type of "JN" are you referring? I'll assume that you mean the "Canuck", since you have a Canadian flag under your name. We have a "Canuck" almost ready to fly at our aerodrome in Kingsbury, Texas. Tell me in more detail the information you require.

Bill

Bill ,thats great news about the Canuck that you are about to fly.WOW! wish I could be there.I have some experience with first flights as I was invovled in building a 1929 Beech Travelair back in the 60s. My question is about the run of the lower wing aileron cables to the cockpit. Some one suggested to me that there are none, that the lowerailerons are simply moved by the interconecting aileron struts from the top wing.My other question invovles the inter-aileron struts themselves.I have seen two diferent arrangements.1. two parallel struts and 2 . a sort of V connecting to one central point.which one is correct for the Canuck. The one in the museum in Ottawa has the V type.Thanks. Cheers! John.

John, at the moment I can't tell you about the cable. I'm about 150 miles away from the plane at the moment but I will be at the aerodrome this Friday evening and I'll try to take photos or whatever. I do know that the inter-aileron struts on our aircraft are in the V-configuration.

This is a photo of our Canuck at one of our AirFairs. The photo is about a year old. You can see the V-struts on the ailerons. The only reason this plane hasn't flown earlier is that we've experienced a lot of trouble with the OX engine for awhile. We think that we've just about got the problem licked and this baby should take to the air soon.

Another thing I just noticed on the previous photo was that the control cables weren't installed yet, hence the droop of the ailerons on both sides.

My Gallery
John Reid:
Two "Jennies" had ailerons on both wings, the canadian built JN-4C and the JN-6HB.
The JN-4C was rigged with the aileron control cable running to a pulley, near and inboard of the base of the outer rear strut, around the pulley and up to an attachment fitting on the aileron connecting strut. The balance cable ran from an attachment fitting to a pulley about a foot inboard of the rear outboard strut accoss the underside of the upper wing to a pulley about a foot from the outer rear strut and down to an attachment fitting at the lower end of the aileron connecting strut. The JN-4C had a vertical and a diagonal aileron connecting struts joined at the base connecting to the lower aileron.
The JN6HB, The upper and lower ailerons were connected with two vertical struts. The upper ailerons had King Posts on both sides like the JN-4D. The control cable ran from the fuselage side to a pulley on the front spar and around the pulley to the King Post. The balance cable ran from the King Post on the top of the aileron to a Pulley mounted on the fromnt spar across the upper surface of the wing to a pulley on the front spar to the King Post.
Blue skies,
Dan-San

The photo shows a cable and a strut upper to lower aileron...why both?
