I've read that the red and blue colors on british cockades faded with time, especially the earlier versions of these two colors. My question is, did these colors fade more on the upper wing surfaces versus the lower wing surfaces due to sunlight exposure?

Jim, Have no photographic confirmation, but that makes sense. The question is: how many "new" airframes survived long enough for their markings to fade? I've seen decal sheets which offer faded (upper) and unfaded (lower) hinomarus for WWII Japanese aircraft, but they also were not involved in daily combat, and would thus have an opportunity for their paint to fade before they were shot out of the sky.
