Breda65 (interesting aircraft, but would have been "Dog Meat" against real aerial opposition), According to

http://gaubs.free.fr/-INSIGNES-/!Historiques.htm#

N12 was formed at Reims in 1912, redesignated MS12 (Morane-Saulnier equipped) in 1915, and SPA 12 in 1917. Wouldn't that have precluded it having flown the Nie. 11? Or, was this a case of not being able to change the squadron designation quickly enough to keep pace with equipment changes? Rob

According to the info I have pulled from Flying Machine Press's on WWI French Air Craft the unit changes names as below:

N12 fromed 1912
flying N 6Ms in 1914
MS12 Feb 1915 flying MoS 3
N12 Sep 1915 flying N11
various Neiuports
SPA12 Oct 1917 flying SPA 7
first SPADs arrived durring Jun 1917

Hope that helps.

Steve, Oops! Osprey's Nieuport Aces has a pic & profile of Nie.11 N642 flown by Dufaur de Gavardie, Esc N12 in 1916, but it has tricolor chevrons (personal marking) in place of the blue/white fanion with the #12. I assume you want a machine with the squadron insignia? Sorry, Rob

Thanks.

I am looking for documentation on a neiuport 11 of n12 that had blue and white fanion plus a cresent moon on the fuselage side. The decal sheet also says the the lower starberd wing was camoflaged.

A photo of this aircraft has been published by Arms and Armour Press Ltd. under Vintage Warbirds No. 10 titled " Nieuport Aircraft of World War One." by J.M. Bruce. This photograph(page 10) taken of the starboard side of Nieuport 11 No. 557 would provide you with the required documentation.
