I am at present involved in the restoration of the Brussels Museum's LVG C6. The part illustrated is the tank pressure unit, unfortunately most of the accompanying pipework is missing so there is much speculation (some of it feasible and some frankly fanciful) as to its function as part of the fuel system. My research has yielded very little except for an article about Bz 300 cv engines of the 1920's which describes a similar unit as a super-compression valve able to deliver fuel if the engine driven pump was KO'd or in the event of the tank being holed it inhibited the rapid exit of fuel to the atmosphere.
Can anyone please shed some light on this and make the LVG team at Brussels museum very happy !

Hello HalbC5man, (On se connaît?)

The object in the photo is the Windkessel, fuel pressure valve which serves as a security to avoid risks of fire when connecting to the gravity tank. It is screwed on top of the main fuel tank.

For the restoration : one of the intakes comes from the pressure tube of the fuel pump, the other delivers to the carburettor (of course passing first through the fuel filter).
