A thread in the "People" section got me to thinking about Goering's DR.I. I don't ever recall seeing a profile or model representing the scheme. Maybe I have, but just didn't realize it....

Can someone direct me a profile or model of Goering's Dr.I?

Thanks.

You will find a profile drawing of Oblt.Hermann Göring's Fok.DR.I 206/17 in "Fokker Dr I Aces of World War 1" by Norman Franks and Greg Van Wyngarten, Osprey Aircraft of the Aces-40, page 43, Drawing 37.

Hi jernst,

Dan-San, nice of you to mention the Osprey book ! Jernst, you may also find a black/white profile of Göring's Dr.I in "Over the Front" Vol. 10 No. 3, page 237, with photos on pages 228 and 230. Alex Imrie stated in "The Fokker Triplane" that the serial was probably 206/17, an aircraft which was still on the strength of Jasta 27 in July 1918 - so that's what I went with. This aircraft had Göring's personal markings of a white cowling, white struts, wheel covers and a white tail section; the rest of it was largely ex-works except for the crosses modified to early Balkenkreuz format. Though there is a close-up photo of Hermann in the cockpit, and other photos of him & his pilots in front of the airplane, I've yet to see a really clear nice 3/4 rear view of this or any triplane(s) which were flown by G. However, there is a well-known piece of motion-picture footage which features mechanics wheeling out a Dr.I with markings which seem to correspond exactly with Göring's; perhaps some of the forumites are familiar with it. Since an official Kogenluft photographer paid a visit to Jasta 27 in May 1918, I am guessing that this footage may have been shot at that time (or possibly shot by Tony Foker himself, who knew Göring well and is known to have filmed him at other times).

Just food for thought.

Greg

here is a modeller's take on it. *If this doesn't work, here's the link to the site: http://www.fiddlersgreen.net/aircraft/WWI/...ring/goring.htm

Here's the only one I have right now. From what I can see of the color scheme it looks like 206/17.
