Thanks.

jbs,
Thanks. Do you know when the restoration was done? Recently I bought (on E-Bay) a swatch of cloth that was mounted to a print/photo of U-10. Was that an original piece of the fabric or part of the new restoration I wonder?
Thanks,
Paul M

Don't know if this will help or not. There was a small booklet published by the Smithsonian on this D.VII entitled some thing 'Fokker D.VII Close-up'. Or something of that nature. It really showed the details of construction. No color shots as I recall. You might try writing the Smithsonian as it may still be available, although the booklet was first printed around 1960? R.

I doubt either one of these pics will be of much help but just-in-case.

I find it curious that either side of the fuselage was painted differently. You can see in the Smithsonian images the port side 10th Uhlan has quotation marks and the starboard side none. Additionally an insignia of which I can't make out is present in the Ross-Barrett collection photo. Or so it seems. Maybe someone can confirm.

Rod and Rick,
Thanks for the info! I've never seen the side with the unknown symbol before. Interesting! Also I wrote to the Smithsonian and asked about the booklet. Hope they can help. Thanks again,
Paul M

Hi guys.
'U.10' as originally marked had a dark grey fuselage and brown nose.
After capture, the 95th Aero added their kicking mule insignia to both sides of the fuselage in front of the 'U.10'.
The first Smithsonian restoration wrongly added lozenge fabric to the fuselage as shown in the previous color pic.
Lately they have repainted the fuselage grey as shown in the b & w pic.
The Albatros publication 'Fokker D.VII Anthology 3' has good pics of both sides just after capture.

Hi Paul
You might find the A&E video of their bio titled Red Baron:Master of the Air of interest. It has a good clip of U 10 being unloaded from a trailer. It shows the top of the upper wing with the printed fabric, U 10 marking, crosses, tape, etc. and the bottom of the lower wing and fuselage. Also shown is a clip of Marwede's wrecked D VII. Also featured are comments by Dan-San.
