Profile of SE5a "C'5396" - "Grid" Caldwell

Does anybody have a colour profile of "Grid" Caldwell's SE5a C'5396?

I'm after one so any help would be greatly smiled upon

Junior.

Try Munson's book of WWI profiles by Blandford

Hi Junior
I used to have a copy of WWI fighter profiles by Kenneth Munson, published by Blandford. The profile for the SE5a was Caldwell's machine, but I don't recall whether it was C'5396. From memory it had a large '2' on the nose and a horizontal bar on the fuselage. Someone else at the 'Drome may have this book and could help more.
Cheers
James

Hi James,

Hope summer's good in the capital! That's made me prick my ears up. I'd like to do an SE in Grid's colours and C'5396 is, I believe, a good choice as it was his regular bus for some time and he scored several victories in it, including his famous hit and run attack on 4 Pfalzs on 1st June 1918.

Anybody here offer a hand?

Junior.

If you wanted to buy the book . . .

Hi Junior

Actually the summer in Wellington has been crap, coldest and wettest in 60 years. The rest of EnZed has been much the same.

I just checked ebay for the Munson book and there is one with three days still to go:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...520972951&rd=1

Watch the word wrap in the link above. Some of the Munson profiles have suffered from subsequent revision by researchers, including some here at the 'Drome. It wouldn't be worth paying a lot to get it but it is still an interesting read.

Cheers
James

Thanks James! Once again you've been a huge help

Sorry to hear Welly's been dodgy, my father told me on the phone that things have been bloody awful in Auckland although improving of late. Might be coming back home next month so maybe get some nice summer weather (although I wouldn't mind a bit of cold and wet as it's unbelievably hot and sunny here all the time )

Talk later!

Hi James,

I believe Grid's SE5a with the big "2" on the front was actually his last mount C'1139 not C'5396. If I can't get a profile of the earlier one I quess I'll have to look at doing this one. Not a biggie but I'd rather do C'5396

Once again, anybody have access to a profile of this bus or has a visual description of it?

Junior.
