Crashed plane ID ?

Hi,

A little bit jealous of Rammjaeger , I will also give it a try to post an unknown crashed plane with partial id on the forum.

I know it did crash as I have another photo of it, in which it's nose is being dug out from the ground !

It is dated in 1915 normally or early 1916 and photographed in West-Flanders, the southern part or in the coastal area, taking a look at all the other ones of the album.

Any ideas ? Possibly is a navy plane...

Best from Johan

I thought Albatros at first, but the tailplane is in the wrong place (on top of the fuselage) and so are the control lines.

My opinion

Hi,

It certainly looks like an LVG B.I to me. Looking at Datafile No. 98 on this type, I can find LVG B.I 251/15 and LVG B.I 318/15, and this serial seems to be B. 307/15. The structure of the fin, rudder and tailplane/elevators, and fuselage, all seem to fit.

But that's just my opinion.

Greg !

It could be very well that you solved the first part of this puzzle !

I had also been concentrating on Albatros or Aviatik, and had given up. Seems that Rod, Eric and R Pope had the same idea as I did originally on this plane.

Thank you very much everybody !

Best from a happy Johan

The fuselage isn't plywood covered and so that rules out the Albatros! The LVG marking style on the rudder matches this for an LVG B-type. It isn't a naval landplane, though. There would be a different LF number for that... not the style seen.

What is it?

JR.R:
Greg is correct! It is a LVG.B.I, from production order with serial numbers B.205 to B.329/15

Thanks Cigogne and Dan-San !

Does anyone have an idea to what unit B307 went ? I know it's a small chance this may be known but one never knows !
