Fokker D-viii
I am building a 33% Fokker D-VIII from Ron Weiss plans.
We are wanting to cover it with Solartex but we can't find the actual Full Scale color to match the wing.
Form what we have conjured the actual Full Scale color is something like a Marine Green that was used on my USMC Utility uniform 1965.
If anyone knows a brand and color that matches the original wing color
it would really help.
I would appreciate any help you can give me........ Thanks Tom

Hello Tom, and welcome to the 'Drome!
To get you started, here's some recent discussion about the Fokker E.V/D.VIII wing colors.
You might also want to try the Forum Search feature for more, as well as posting in the Models section for advice on materials.
Good luck with it,
Eric

Hey Tom,
Always nice to hear of another 1/3 scale D8 going airborne... Turns out that the wing color has some history to it. For your needs, I would use a olive-brown color that you can see on my site www.gtmodels.com. The cowling and metal hoods should be the same color and you might as well make the subwing the same. If you feel you want to tackle multi-colors the wing should really be stained. Bring your plane down to Joe Nall, we'll be there with our airforce and we can chat about WW1.

Fok.D.VIII (or E.V).
Hammer;
Fok.E.V/D.VIII wing was stained in true green and mocha (brown) on the top surface and blue ana azin violet on the surface. The stains were applied in a streaked manner much like the Fok.DR.I After the stained dried the wing was varnished. The Engine hood, aluminum panes and axle wing were painted olive. The fuselage, tailplane, fin, rudder and wheel covers were covered with four color lozenge, dark on the top and sides and the light pattern on the bottom of the fuselage and tailplane.
Blue skies,

Now the next question, as a modeler, is just what colors and patterns are we trying to simulate as an end result. In looking at the photos that were posted when this was discused before I can't tell where I am going as an end result.
We know what the stains were since they are apparently sill in production but what do they look like as applied to the plywood used in the D VIII wing and is there a color shift when varnished.
Would one of the talented artists like to try and show what the resulting pattern might look like? To the best of my knowlage no one has done a profile reflecting this "new" information. Right?
