2 Original German WW1 Rudders For Sale

There are a couple of German Rudders for sale on Ebay, one for a Fokker D7, one for an Albatros. The seller claims they are genuine.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...518445106&rd=1

If you buy either of them, do let me know. I am not involved with the sale.

Regards,

Robert

I'm inclined to think that the green one looks a little on the new side. Perhaps a "Blue Max" prop? I'm a little cautious these days after ebay stings.

The green Albatros rudder has a thin red outline like Jasta 5. Should the red outline be wider on a Jasta 5 rudder?

The D.VII rudder is minus its hinges, this is hard to do on a Fokker built rudder as they are not built to be removed, firstly you would have to have a good reason to remove them and then you would have to take great care to cut them away using an angle grinder or similar and not damage the spar tube, what could the reason be? They do not get in the way if you wish to hang your trophy on the wall in fact they help you by providing a fixing point. Most souvenir rudders have had one side of their control horns cut away so that they can be hung from a wall. Take care with these purchases.

Franzkait,

I agree they do not look right, the leading and trailing edges of the horns look too parallel. I think Ron Sands triplanes are done this way.

Alb.D.Va and Fok.D.VII rudders?

Gentlemen;
It appears the manufacturers of new (inaccurately made) rudders for the Alb.D.III, D.V/D.Va have found a ready market for suckers! They are FAKES!
Blue skies,
Dan-San

What a joke, so it is, I missed that. I have seen this type of fake before as a friend asked me to look at an Fokker E.III rudder he had purchased, the internal structure was made of cane and the fabric had obvious signs of grubby paint work to make it look old, just like this D.VII rudder.

What a shame people do this, there would probably be a good market for well done repros. I used to collect WW II German militaria, but there are so many fake dealers out there, I am to scared to purchase anything any more.
