Australian Pup

Ross

The Sopwith Pup is an AFC one in Australian. See my article in "WWI Aero" or Isaccs' book on Australian Military Aircraft.

The pic is a Pup that I believe flew down under here during the war advertsing War Bonds. I could be wrong about the country though.

Could be one of those Shenyang Pups?

Hello Ross,

The Admiralty Type 827 was an improvement of the same family of planes including the Type 184 (much like the RAF's BE series). I believe the main differences between the two is that the 827 had the different engine as noted earlier. It featured steel-tube interplane struts rather than wood, and the cockpits were modified so that it could be flown solo without the need for ballast. The land chassis was not standard on this type.

For more information try C.H. Barnes, 'Shorts Aircraft', Putnam, 1989.

another Belhian Short 827 on the lake!

Hi!

Just bought today an old bookwork (just post-WWI released!) with another photo in it of the Belgian Short 827 on the Lake Tanganyika!
Notice no Belgian flag roundels on the flank painted here!
Perhaps not done yet?
No idea, buts clearly a photo from there (as into annotation is mentioned indeed!) and black laningcrew assisting it!

Might be one of the other planes...
I noticed into left corner of photo the tailrudder of another one!
