Hi,

Recently bought a picture of a seaplane at Zeebrugge with heavy damage. I have only a part of the plane on it and it shows broken floats, a heavily damaged lower wing and light damaged upper wing. It is a two seater and probably has the number 938 on it. I'm absolutely sure about the first two numbers not about the 8.
It has the the text in Gothic De Porr. on the fuselage, near the propellor.
Does anyone know who's plane this was and in what accident it may have been that it was so heavily damaged ? Thanks !

Best from Regulus

Hi Regulus

a/c 938 was flown by Lt dR MA Christiansen - Lt dR MA Hillger on 15 May 1917 when both claimed their second victory....it was reported as a new arrived FF 33L around this date...

However a/c 937 (Röver-Elsässer) was reported destroyed "after" this combat...!

Could 937 be your a/c..?

However I dont have the "life story" of a/c 938... :-[

Hi Gunnar,

That is the mystery, certainly was not 937. Could be 938, 939. Have now already certitude about that. But think it is 938. It looks indeed like FF33 but was not certain because of the type. Haven't seen other pictures of an L model.
It certainly was out of service before half October 1917 !
So the accident must have occured between 15 May and 17 October 1917.
Looking at the damage I think it was brought in by a ship to the Zeebrugge Mole. Half of the right float is missing. Left float is broken in two also.
This should give us a better base I hope to find out what happend.

Thanks and best from Regulus

Hi,

One of the members of my forum on Kaiserliche Marine mentioned that De Porr probably was a saint. Anyone ever heard about this 'saint' and if he was a patron for something ?

Thanks and best from Regulus
