Challenge Test 2 (A Real One!)

This one is ahead of its time. It is American and most unusual. Who can tell me how?

Flying Bomb

It is the US Army's flying bomb. The Navy developed one as well with Sperry of gyroscope fame.

Well done - and so quick. I've heard it referred to as the first cruize missile and it was certainly a clever piece of engineering. Still you guys are so good I'll have to go more obscure with my bit of fun!

I believe the official name was the Kettering Aerial Torpedo. When in first trials, there was difficulty making it crash on command. Finally, one ran out of gas, whereupon it promptly fell out of the sky. An engine shutoff was then used to good effect.

Actually, photos show the first one crashing on take off. The next try was a B 17.
