That's not obscure, I've even got the log book of a pilot that flew it! I don't think "Saw Service" is the right description though. It was flown in an operational theatre but not operationally.

It's new to me! As far as I can get is that it's British (obviously) and fairly early in the war (based on the small Albatros CIII style rudder). The gap between the fuse and lower wing is interesting too.

OK, its the Alcock scout made mostly out of crashed bits of a Camel, Pup and Triplane by none other than Jack Alcock of "crossing the Atlantic" fame.

Alcock served with the RNAS in the Aegean and collected bits of wrecks to construct a machine to his own ideas. Alcock never saw it fly as by the time it was ready he had been shot down and taken prisoner of war.

FSL Starbuck (of Battlestar Galactica fame - no, not really) flew the tiny scout several times in early 1918.
