Just curious if everyone else is as pleased as I am with the Osprey book on DR1 aces. Quite a few pictures I haven't seen before as well as beautiful profiles. I did have a question for GregVan if he's watching. The profile of Jacob's tripe with the devil emblem is quite a bit more detailed than I have seen before. Is this from new info or does it depict the a/c early in its career before weathering became apparent.

My best to everyone!

Excellent books, really. I just hope that Osprey keeps them coming.

A book on the Fokker D VII is supposed to ber released next year.

Dear Maxblue, and all,

Thanks so much for the kind words! The Dr I Aces book was a labor of love, but quite a bit of work.

Maxblue, the rendering of Jacobs' devil's head emblem was based closely on a colored sketch Jacobs did for the late Neal W. O'Connor in 1974, as well as a close examination of the photo. Though it was only a halftone photo, Neal provided me with the best possible print of this shot and I studied it with great interest. You can just make out the white eyeballs and lips, and it is clear there was some light shading of the 'feathers' on the white portion of the wing. It was the closest rendering we could come up with.

The first Osprey D VII Aces book should be out before the end of this year - at least I hope so ! All the material is now in the editor's hands. A new book by Norman Franks on Sopwith Dolphin and Snipe Aces (both covered in one book) should be out soon, to be followed by another Franks effort on Sopwith Camel Aces.

Hope you find that interesting. Thanks again for the kind words - they are greatly appreciated !

Hello,

I've read the book with a lot of pleasure. Just like Maxblue I saw several pictures I haven't seen before. For instance, I was very pleased with the picture of The Jasta B pilots of "Kette Kempf".
I also love the info about the pilots; a lot was new to me.

I'm looking forward to the new Osprey books of WW 1 Aces.

VBR
