???I am running into a quandry.

I am at the stage of adding the top wing to my Eduard Albatros D.II. I originally had a problem getting the strut geometry to line up and thought this was due to the wing struts being too long per Albatros Datafile Special. So, I clipped it.

I realize, now, that the Eduard kit uses the original Datafile 11 drawings which had a deeper gap.

What is the correct gap on the D.II? I tossed this to the WWI Modeling group. John Cygnowski (Paschendale models) said his data was also conflicted. Dan-San, would you have this?

(Unfortunately, I am having a great deal of difficulty of locating WWI Aero issue 185 which I used to establish the LVG camoflage.)

Thanks in advance.

I can't give EXACT specifics, but I CAN tell you that the gap was reduced from the DI to the DII to improve visability. I suggest looking at some 3-views on the web. Do a search on (ok don't laugh) Nieuport and you will turn up a site that has 3-views (from the period, not modern ones) of at least a couple hundred different period aircraft. I'm pretty sure there is an Albatross 3-view, perhaps several, but I don't remember which one(s).

Thanks! I also suspect that the gap on the DII is the same as on the DIII and DV. However, on the DV, it is not as evident as it had a deeper fuselage.

;D Found the missing WWI Aero!

Dan-San shows the gap to be 1300 mm. In 1/48, that is 2.708 cm. I will call it 2.7 cm and that means I reduce the original Datafile 11 drawing's gap by 1mm. This tracks with John Cygnowski's comments. The Datafile Special's gap is too short by roughly 3 mm, or 14.4 cm in full scale.
