Paul Baumer's aircraft

I'm sure most of us are familiar with the Albatros DV Paul Bäumer flew with Jasta 5 and the Triplanes he flew with Jasta B, but has anyone seen photos or have documentation on the Albatros DV or Fokker DVII he would have flown in Jasta B? And while I'm on the subject, do we know if Baumer ever scored in the Pfalz DVIII he flew?
best wishes,Scott

Ref: Jasta Boelcke by Norman Franks

Paul Bäumer is said to have used 3 different Albatros DV/DVa with Jasta B. These were 4409/17 (white edelweiss w/ red stripes), 4430/17, and 5410/17 (yellow fuselage w/ two black bands).

The Fokker DV flown by Paul Bäumer was essentially a conversion trainer for the Dr.I, to reacquaint pilots with the peculiarities of the rotary engine, and had no personal markings.

As for the Pfalz DVIII, Bäumer conducted his operational assessment tests in May, 1918. Paul Bäumer was credited with three victories on 23 March 1918, but his next victory with Jasta B was not until 5 September 1918.

Hi Scott,

As Tomvrille said, Bäumer (or Baeumer, but not Baumer) was flying the Pfalz D.VIII for a short time in May 1918, and his serious crash which occurred on 29 May is thought to have been in the Pfalz. Thus, he never scored any victories in the D VIII. When Bäumer returned to Jasta Boelcke in September, I believe all of his remaining victories were scored in a Fokker D.VII. There are a couple of late 1918 photos of Bäumer with Fokker D.VIIs in the background, but I don't know what his marking on any D.VIIs he might have flown were.

Best regards,

Greg

Scott- Steve Anderson did a beautiful watercolor of Baumer's short-lived Pfalz D.VIII and Stephen Lawson has photos of a Tom's Modelworks D.VIII in 1/48 scale. Very pretty aircraft.
