OK, if nobody else is going to have a go, I'll bite. It's a shame the scan is so bad with heavy Moire fringing that distorts the shot.

It's a Sopwith Triplane with rather a lot of broken bits - the centre struts in particular seem to have snapped off and moved. The Sopwith patent tail incidence adjuster is clearly visible at the back end, this was only fitted to some Pups, the 1.5 Strutter and the Triplane.

Mike,

I'd say it was the Strutter, because there seems to be Scarff gun mounting.

Perhaps it's a 1 1/2 Strutter used by the Bolsheviks because of the star insignia on the opened canvas (could be any nationality though).

I found the camera gun pictures very interesting, never seen them before.
