Question Original Data Plates For Sale

Hello Everyone,
I have several original data plates that I am interested in selling to someone who would put them to good use. I would prefer they go to flying aircraft or projects. The data tags and plates vary and came from my grandfather who was stationed in Europe during WWII. He was passionate about WWI aircraft at the time and went around to airfield junk yards where these planes were rotting away and pulled off all worthwhile parts. Here is what's left.

Avion Spad Type S.XIII Serial # 548 - airframe
Fiat Tipo A12BIS "For USA"
Moteur Peugeot license Hispano Suiza 8Be
SCMA
Clerget 130 HP (rpm data tag)

Can anyone tell me the best place to put these up for sale and or the best people to contact about these pieces?

Stick_n_rudder, you have probably already considered offering these on ebay. That is probably one of the best ways to sell them, particularly since you have announced their existence here.
Once sold, they will vanish into the possession of their new owners. Please do the rest of us a favor and provide high resolution scans of these data plates in close proximity to a ruler or scale. A flat bed scanner might be a good way to go if the plates are still rather flat. You will have to host the pictures on some other part of the web to post them at high resolution. Otherwise the 50k limit for pictures hosted here will decrease the value of your efforts.
Just keep us advised of your sales plans and things will work out.

I agree, definitely Ebay with a note here to alert folks to take a look.

The alternative would be a militaria dealer but you would need to keep in mind that they have to make a substantial profit to stay in business and would give you a fraction of what you would get on Ebay.

Sell them individually to get the most for each one.

Of the ones you mention, some are worth more than others, though don't expect to retire early on the prices they will bring. Ebay really will get you the going market prices for this kind of material. What it won't bring is sentimental value, though, so you may want to hang onto one or more of them that may mean something special to you since they were your grandfather's.

I would be more than happy to offer on them, I look to preserve their beauty by adding them to models we make of the subject aircraft. These are hand built bespoke copper wire models, limited to approx 80 per annum.
Those that I like myself I keep, but the others are made available for sale to ensure that others do not just “throw them in a drawer”
We have many plaques to date, but from WW1 a Fairey Hamble Baby and rigging plate from a Pfalz DIII.
Examples of what we make are available as a one page on www.friendlyskies.co.uk and I would be happy to discuss purchase if you wish via email on graham@friendlyskies.co.uk.

If you would like, we can make a model for you so you may retain any of those plaques that are your favourite.

Personally, I am particularly interested in the 130HP Clerget as I have a plaque for an aircraft that used it, the Fairey Hamble Baby

Best regards
Graham

Buzzard,
There is an SE-5A hanging in the shopping centre in Farnborough in Hampshire.
Perhaps Rushmoor Borough Council will let you know if there is one and if they will let you have it.......................
best of luck
Graham
