Fokker Dr.I Wing Drawing!

Hi Guys,

Here is a sneak preview of my "FOKKER Dr.I RESEARCH DRAWINGS" that I intend to make commercially available soon. The drawings are almost finished, and are down to the "nut and bolt" level of the original Dr.I's structure in great metric dimensional detail.

Any interest, or comments are much appreciated!

Regards, Gary Sewall

Nice, do you have any info about the data box that is on top of the spar and as to what was in it?

Thanks
Ed

Ed,

The data box detail is included in another detail drawing which is part of the wing drawing package.

Hi Gary,
Your drawing looks excellent and has the right overall appearance for the Dr.I wing. All outlines look right including the wingtip. I like to encourage drafters because I'm one myself, so keep it up! What are you going to charge when it's time to release a complete set? What scale are the drawings going to be?

Thanks, Lyle

Lyle,

Actually, prices won't be set until I feel the whole package is ready to sell. Regarding scale, I use a CADD program for drafting which allows ANY scale to be printed, including full size, like for the wing rib drawings, etc. This would also be a great tool for modeling, as some people might want different scale drawings for the 3-view profiles to simply copy onto their model without having to do an enlargement or reduction themselves. Here is an sample drawing of the two turnbuckles used in the Dr.I that would be typically printed to full scale, like the rib drawings if desired:

Regards, Gary

Finally! A way for us 6+ foot pilots can build a 125% scale DR-1!

Jim,
Just keep in mind that if you actually built it 125% scale (every dimension x 1.25), the plane will be about 2 times as heavy. If you use the same thickness of material everywhere, it will still be over 1.5 times as heavy. This would be better, since the wing area would also increase by the same proportion, but you would need to have an engineer check the design for safety. You would also need a bigger engine.

Unfortunately, you can't just scale a plane up.

Actually, I plan to go on a diet to weigh the "regulation" 77KGs (170#)! I too am 6' 1". My Gipsy Moth has only a 24" wide cockpit, which fits me just fine, while the Fokker Dr.I (and D.VII, D.VIII) has a "roomy" 28" wide cockpit! Plenty of room for the "purist!"

Regards, Gary
