Albert Ball and his S.E. 5 (A4850)

Hello

I have searched this magnificend place and few others to verify Mr Ball's first and last flown S.E 5 (A4850) version. It's looks lot of S.E 5a (no gasolinetank at the top of wing and with head rest) but withing delivery time (April) it should be S.E. 5.

Kindly,

Red

Greetings Red..
Capt Ball's aircraft was an S.E.5. It was equipped with the 150hp Hispano-Suiza engine. In order to come up to S.E.5a specification, the 200hp engine would have been required. This change was never made to A4850.

56 Squadron did not receive its first 200hp S.E. (A4563) until 11 June 1917.

Hope this helps. ................TV
