Seaplanes

Gentlemen,

Knowing next to nothing about WWI aviation beyond generalised history, I hope there is someone out there who can help. I am interested finding a list of all German naval aviation units and their dates of operation and aircraft used. If there is a website with such information, that would do just as well. I have searched the forums and can only come up with the thread on Torpedostaffel II. Although there are several WNr.s mentioned, I can not determine for what aircraft they belong to.

In a web-search all I could find was: http://forums.military.com/eve/forum.../7910041470001
but in parts it is confusing and I am unsure if these are all the units.

Any help would be most greatly appreciated

There's a book out in the Osprey 'Elite' series - 'German Air Forces 1914-18' by Ian Sumner. Only 64 pages overall, including two pages on the Naval Air Service, so probably not quite what you're looking for, but it might help as there's a two-page bibliography. See 'Google Book Search' for details and availability.

Best I can do for now - c'mon chaps, help the man!

Hello:

I can also suggest the book GERMAN NAVAL AIR SERVICE by Alex Imrie. It is one of the Vintage Aviation Fotofax series and tells the story of the development of the Service primarily through annotated photos. The book is well worth having.

Both Dave and Simba, thank you. I have tried my local and university libraries for the titles you suggest, but to no avail. Unfortunately, WWI aviation - let alone WWI naval aviation - is not a specific interst of mine and, given my minimal university grant, is not something I am inclined to spend my limited budget on simply to get a list of all German naval aviation units during the period. However, I appreciate very much the prompt assistance you both provided.

If there is someone out there who can provide such a list, or else direct me to a forum/web site where such an answer can be found I would be most greatful

best regards

Adam

German naval Air

Adam, I do not know how your German is, but since you ask info about the German Air Service I'll risk it.

Alexander,

Thank you for the links. The last one proved especially good, although my German is very bad, I was able to figure out what was going on.

regards

Adam
