Gotha Bombers over London photo

When I last visited the WWI exhibit at the Air & Space museum in D.C. (2000?), I happened to notice a fairly small but remarkable photo. It appeared to show a curving already passed formation of about 15 Gotha bombers fairly low (guestimate 2-3,000 feet over the skyline of London (IIRC with the Cathedral dome in the background) with a few flack bursts low and behind). Is anyone familiar with this photo? Has it been published? Is it available on the net?

Thanx

Anyone live close to D.C?

Maybe someone could confirm whether my recellection of is accurate? –a visit to the NASM is free and well worthwhile –if the photo is no longer up, maybe someone could ask a curator –this could truly be a historic ‘find’.

Gotha Bombers over London

Hello Rob,

This might not be the photo you're searching for, but this one shows Gotha G.IV and G.V bombers over London in 1917.

Hi Jos..
I would never have guessed those aircraft in the photo were Gothas. The aspect ratios look all wrong.

Gothas over London

Hello Tom,

I think you made a good remark. I asked myself the same question.
I don't know for sure. The photo comes from German Fighter Aces of
world War One by Treadwell & Wood
.
There are only 20 planes to be seen on this picture, so you can't know for sure 1. if they are really Gothas and 2. if the photo is taken in London.

Maybe someone else has more info.

Greetings,

Jos
