Austro-Hungarian Albatrosses

All the illustrations I've seen of A-H Albatrosses show them in service on the Italian front. Were any of these superior (for the A-H air service) fighters ever used on the Eastern or Balkan Fronts?

BTW, does anyone know of any websites dealing with A-H's WW1 aviation?

k.u.k. Albatros Fighters in Romania

Hello John MacG, Three Albatros D.IIIs of Series 53 served with an Austro-Hungarian provisional fighter unit known as Flieger Detachment Hptm. Karl Nikitsch based at Kezdi-Vasarhely on the Romanian Front from early July to mid-September 1917. The unit also had two Hansa-Brandenburg D.Is (known as KDs). Six of eight enemy aircraft fell to Albatros during its brief existence.

Please visit my website http://www.warchron.com which addresses the Russian and Romanian Fronts in WWI. The Forum section has recently been expanded to include a variety of new aviation threads. You will soon find coverage of the Austro-Hungarians there. Cheers, agblume

You might try this site http://www.austro-hungarian-army.co.uk, although I do not know if it contains definitive information on your particular interest.

Have you ever read Windsock Data File 19 concerning Albatros DIII (OEF).
Also available Great War Aircradt in Profile #2 on the Brandenburg D1 a Czech publicaton from JaPO on the DII and DIII (OEF) and the Aviatik D I in Windsock Datafile #45.
