Restored Nieuport on display at Brussels Air Museum

Today the restored original Nieuport 23 N5024 of the Belgian Aviation Militaire has been rolled out of the restoration hangar and lifted by crane to the first floor at the Royal Army Museum in Brussels to be displayed next to the Hanriot HD.1 fighter. See pictures by Christian Van Caenegem annexed. This afternoon the machine was to be assembled.

Daniel- Looks beautiful. Thanks. Hopefully you can post some photos of the aircraft once it is assembled.

Only 8 years to go before the 100th anniversary of the beginning of WW-I. Hopefully there will be a push to highlight WW-I aircraft in the next few years.

I heard there was a special reception on thursday 23rd november 2006 to celebrate the restauration of this Nieuport. Are there any full assembled pictured available of this Nieuport?

The machine is given as a Nieuport 23, while in 1964 in an article in the magazine Air Pictorial it was given by the writer Guy Destrebecq as a Nieuport 17 C1.

Can you elaborate on this? I think during the restauration all sorts of details have come on the surface including model stamps on parts etc.

Hope you can give some information and pictures.

Perhaps there is a different engine mounted, so they can see the plane as a 17 or 23 as desired

The Nie 23 is a developement of the Nie 17,ok but they are different by the motor more powerful and much heavy but don't forget the position of the vickers on the starboard side(other synchronization system than the 17) on the front fuselage and the opening fixation of the cowling are not typical for a Nie17 but goog for a Ni 23,and the Bruxelles nieuport have all this caracteristique. sorry for my bad english regards from belgium,Théo

I confirm that the Nieuport of the Brussels Air museum is well a Nieuport 23.
