Virginia Aviation Museum

There are some good shots of a SPAD 7, a Jenny and a Standard here along with lots of golden age planes.

franzkait- The original Wright Flyer (what is left) is at the Smithsonian Institution Air and Space Museum in Washington DC, ~ 2-300 miles (350-500 Kms) from Hampton, VA.

Yavor- Right you are. I should have looked more closely. Richmond is halfway to DC from Hampton.

Pat:

Thanks for the memories! I remember when those aircraft were all part of Sidney Shannon's collection at Fredericksburg, Virginia. In fact, checking my old log book I found that on November 3, 1978 I logged 1.1 hours in a J-3 Cub (probably the same one in the collection) flying round-trip from Fredericksburg to Manassas to "pick up parts for Stinson" -- the one in your photos! I also recall that the curator of the collection had what at the time I thought was the ultimate job -- every day he dressed like a WWI ace! I think his name was Mert Meade -- but not certain. Anyone know what became of him?
