Hoi Rbailey, It looks like a De Havilland type machine. Is it an American machine based on a De Havilland? Thanks, FOKKERJ

Is it a DH 9a with the Liberty motor?

My concern is that the cowling on the radiator doesn't seem quite right. Our machine in question is more rounded than some of the pictures I've seen of the DH 9a. The plane does seem to have a backwards stagger between the wings.

Hi Rbailey, I'm with Der Grüne Flieger on the appearence of the staggered wing look. I just noticed that. Also are my eyes deceiving me or does it have a greater span on the lower wing? Or is it so staggered that the top wing looks shorter? Good challenge! Gotta go, FOKKERJ

It is not a DH and not American, nor is it a cuckoo, although the picture is of a prototype. And Der Flieger and Fokkerj have good eyes; it had some backstagger.

It's the revised Sopwith Dolphin prototype.

Lightbulb

Just in case someone had noticed it hadn't, the Challenge enumeration and submitted images list at www.earlyaviator.com/br.challenge/ has been updated.

Circumstances beyond my control (real life), was cause for having to let it slide for a couple of weeks. I'll assume alles ist in ordnung unless reported otherwise.

BTW Kees, great Sopwith Bee graphic! Maybe we need a new page called Kees' Korner --for all the krazy answers. On second thought, I shouldn't give FOKKERJ any ideas.

Cheers
Rod
