My Gallery
Context

Since the correct answer is already in the replies posted, here's the context for the photo.

Major Harry Benson Anderson, ex-88th Aero Squadron COmmanding Officer and C.O., 4th Corps Observation Group, native of Dover, New Jersey, FAI Certificate #666.

Killed in this aircraft on 21 February 1919 while with the Army of Occupation at Coblenz. Engine failed on takeoff and before he could regain the field, hit a line of trees. He did not appear to be killed in the crach, but was trapped in the broken fuselage and died in the ensuing fire.

A second photo of the badly crashed airplane and four grim witnesses is attached.
