Breguet's Aircraft Chalenge # 244

Since I messed up the number when I first posted this, and some potential responders may think that 234 is just the old 234, I am reposting it under the proper number in hopes of getting some answers. Sorry about the confusion.

OK On with the thread. Seaplane aren't really my thing but I'll start the educated guesses with a Pola G3. (What I can see in my picture of the tail looks about the same). Only thing is from the angle you present I can't make out whether it is a two o0r three engined beastie!

Breguet - I am unfamiliar with the Pola G3, but this is not what my source calls it.

This is the Austro-Hungarian Grossflugboot G 6, built by Oeffag, which was delivered in August 1916. The machine was considered a bad flyer, but did a raid to Venice in September 1916 together with the G 3. The bomb load that was carried was 600 kg.

Of course Rbailey carefully edited out all visible parts of Austro-hungary and the marking G 6.

Added later: it was a three-engined machine

Point to Cruze. I dont know what the official designation was, beyond the G6 part, but it was built by Oeffag and designed by Josef Mickl (was this the same Michl who did the design of the volkswaggen?). I think at least some of the G's were built at Pola, so they may have gone by that name in some references. There were several other type G's; I don't know how similar they were. I don't know of any good reference for Austro-Hungarian marine aircraft that would be analogous to Gross and Hadddow for army types; perhaps something in German.

The acknowledged standard work about Austro-hungarian marine aircraft is

Peter Schupita. Die k. u. k. Seeflieger: Chronik und Dokumentation der osterreichisch-ungarischen Marineluftwaffe 1911-1918 (Beitrage zur osterreichischen Marinegeschichte) 1983, Bernard & Graefe, Hardcover
ISBN: 3763754261

Book is already long OOP and fetches high prices when a copy comes second hand on the market. Just look around on the different book search sites.

As you already said it is in German (Österreichisch ?).

Kees,
Austrians don't speak Österreichisch but local dialects are referred to by name. Viennese speak Weinerisch, peoples of Steiermark, Kärnten and Tirol speak Südbairisch and in Salzburg Salzburgisch is spoken, to name a few.

I'm just a smörgåsbord of useless information.

Cheers
Rod
