Roden 1/48 Junkers D.I

I just received my new Roden 1/48th scale Junkers D.I in the mail (yesterday)......while I haven't had time to start dry fitting, or snipping parts from the sprue for that matter, all the main components line up nicely with the Datafile drawings of this bird.
The moldings are Beautiful with plenty of interior structure to keep all of us cockpit detail freaks quite happy!
(There is also an extra engine for the spare parts box)
Decals for 2 aircraft.
I highly recommend this kit!
If your looking for a quick build, this is the kit for you & it surpasses all the 1/48th scale Junkers D.I kits that have come before it in detail & price!

Hats of to Roden!!!!

Ken

Roden

Was Ist Loss ? Niene Kleine Photographen to look at ?

Serious ly sounds great I want one too !! and I dont even DO quarter scale. Truth be told though I do have a dozen 48th Kit collection on the build shelf.
A) For the fact quarter Scale WWI was a renasaunce in Kit manufacturing and
B) I envisioned a Massive Batt Operated WWI "Flying" Mobile of an entire WWI ACFT Varterity circling my two yo sons cieling in a gaint lufberry.

Ummm I will post a seperate thread but I need your inputs on ROden 48th scale line. What do you want ot be able to have ?

Yours Mike

Galloway, as we all know the Roden 1/72 Kit have at least two major flaws being the corrugated wing surface at the wing tips are not parallel to the wing and the corrugations to the rear of the cockpit, on the turtledeck, on the kit run parallel to each other, while on the real aircraft they converge to the centre seam on the top fuselage panel. Can you tell me if on the 1/48 Kit this flaws are still existing? ( being different scales I don't suppose so, but...!). Thank you.

Started building today

(1) rear turtledeck corrugations are parallel (no easy fix, except sand smooth and use .030 half-round )

(2) "Wingwalk" wing root strips are missing ( easy fix - use ~ .040 round )

(3) No corrogations in cockpit interior ( easy fix - use .030 half-round )

(4) don't understand your wingtip question - kit appears to match pics in Datafile 33

Washout of wings and general quality, fit are nice.

GSPOINTER, thank you so much for your answer. About the wing tips my doubt is this, the corrugations on the wing shouldn't be parallel all the way to the tip of the wing? I haven't got datafile 33 YET! Thanks again!

Zabu - -

In WSD33, the photos which are clear enough or from a suitable angle all show the wing corrugations to be parallel to each other, and parallel to the line of flight.

The WSD33 drawings do show the rear turtle deck as having parallel corr., but clear photos seem all to show the rear deck to be 2-piece, split along the fore and aft centerline, with the corr. meeting as a series of "Vees" along that line.

Junker D.I differences

The early Junkers D.I (Jco) had the turtledeck corrugations "straight" along the vertical, side panels, and they taper in the middle seam. The production D.Is (Jfa) seem to be just the opposite. The (Jfa) CL.I were that way too.
All the wing corrugations were parallel to the line of flight.

Should be "Air Enthusiast 25"

I'll have to read the article again thoroughly for reference to the rear panel(s). It almost appears that some aircraft have a combination of rear turtledeck panel types.

The box-art striped "brown fuselage" aircraft would seem to have the earlier "meeting on the centerline" corrugations.
