I'd have to vote for Oberleutnant Erich Lowenhardt (of course; wouldn't you vote for someone you're related to?).

Charles Biddle. He lived about a mile from where I went to high school. Never had the chance to meet him, alas.

Luke was a daredevil, no question about that. Great pilot, but fate just put him in the wrong place at the wrong time. Aw well, he took out 7 Germans before he was slain.
McElroy was the same, but he was a very wreckless pilot who didn't use his brain, which finally got him killed.

My favorite Ace is Werner Voss (as You can see on my avatar). Why he isn't in list? I like many German pilots- Gabriel, Weiss, MvR also Loewenhardt.

My vote is to Kiss József (or in German form: Josef Kiss), the most succesful Hungarian fighter ace of WW I and an extraordinary man and pilot.

My best Ace is Georges Guynemer even he is not in your list because he is for me a True Hero wo put his duty for his country above his own life: not always he case for aces like Fonck who was only a tactician,or some others who consider the air war like a "sport" between "gentlemen "from different country in conflict at that moment.
cordialement
BRUNO
