Aero. Analysis of WW1 Aircraft

Hi All,

I have been working on a stability analysis of the N17 by building a computer model of the aircraft using XFLR5 (Xfoil with a great GUI) and ACES by Digital Aerodynamics. Since the XFLR5 software is freeware (sourceforge.net) I was wondering if anybody would like to start a collaboration for analysis of WW1 aircraft using XFLR5 or other software one my have at one's disposal.

My Nieuport 17 XFLR5 model currently has airfoil versions using Eiffel53, Clark Y, Graham Lee Upper wing per plans, Baslee tail feathers, etc.

I am offering my XFLR5 model to those interested and who have the capacity or are willing to improve the model for accuracy or help in interpetation of the resulting data. My selfish goal is to refine and predict the performance of my N17 replica, but perhaps my model can be a seed to stimulate some collaborative research.

I also thought this would be a neat idea to expand beyond the Nieuport so as to potentially answer some questions posed about aircraft performance on these forums.
Some history,,,Im a retired electrical engineer who came to question my N17 replica plans as to aircraft stability and performance. With the advent of these excellent freeware analysis programs, engineering background, and textbooks I undertook to find out what I could. So far,,very interesting results with a lot more to learn and discover.

if anybody is interested , send me a private post to airdrome.

Thanks all--- Happy Solstice

Candice,
I would be interested to collaborate on this. Being a 30 year senior engineer (MSEE) for the USAF, I understand exactly what you are doing. I have visited your web page and chuckled about your frustrations with your Baslee building plans. The Base library has the texts that you recommended. There is one book I found there that you should read. I'll get in touch with you.
