Nieuport 11 leather/lacing
On the upper forward fuselage of Nieuport 11's are strips of leather (I think) that are laced to "pegs" in the side of the fuse. What function did these leather strips serve? Also, how were they attached on the sides without the lacing?

Hello Bokuda,
The leather strips served as a seal for the join between the upper forward fuselage (covering the oil & fuel tank) and the fuselage side panels. The lacing kept the upper panel in place but also allowed access for maintenance |
