Hmmm, I think we have here another one out of the myriard of german 2-seaters and looking at the fuselage sides and the tailplane I canīt get Albatros out of my mind.
If it is another "well known" prototyp like your last challenge, it may take a while until we find the right book to look in.
I donīt have many pictures of the reconnaissance planes, so I will try Albatros C.VIII this time.
Thatīs how the "observer" is stumping the "aces" with war-time machines!
Great challenge, Richard!
Cheers
Aquilius

I still think it has a V engine. If not an Albatros, what did the Aviatik DIV look like (not clear if it would fit based on the Gray and Thetford picture)? Was there a DV? The DVI was 2-bay, but had a frontal radiator.

Ron, there was. Even an Aviatik D.VI, still two-bay, which is not that impossible.
The D.VI was Aviatik's last attempt to sell a fighter.
"Itīs flying characteristics were excellent, just the appearence in October 1918 was a little too late..."
Not sure if it was planned to start the series production with D.VII.
Iīm a little unfamiliar with the view of that plane, put on a trestle. You canīt get much more than itīs nose.
Cheers

Hi Folks,
I agree it is a vee engine - the angle of the exhausts and the bumps in the cowling would seem to indicate that.
I thought it might be a copy or derivative of the Albatross C V but I haven't found one without the "rhino horn type exhaust.
The shape in the background might be side radiators or might be a pushed up elevator (which would match with the one-piece elevator popular on several German and Austrian aircraft.
However, the split lower wing protruding below the fuselage is a bit retrograde for late WW1 which makes me think it has to be another non-mainstream country and the "stub exhausts" (if that's what they are) tends to emphasise this.
Just my 2 cents worth!
A good challenge Richard.
Cheers
Greg

Hello
I think it's a Brandenburg L 15 with 345hp Daimler V12 engine.

CONGRATULATION CRUZE ! Bien joué .
It's the two seats Hansa-Brandenburg L 15 reco plane designed by Ernst Heinkel for Austria and built in 1917 with a 12-V 350 hp Austro-Daimler motor
One proto only .
I join a better picture .
Span 13,6m length 8,74m wing area 52,7m2 flying weight 1500kg
By the way some HB plane are not often illustrated ;They were designed in Germany for Austria's only use .They are neither in german nor austrian reference books .
