Hello Dan,

Thanks for your reply! It is extremely difficult to get any info from anyone on the subject of WW1 props. Trying to find data on them is like wandering across a desert.

I have a fuller version of the 'Axial prop type' table that I can send you if you wish. Also a database of around 600 German props. Quite a bit of the info has come from answers you have given in the past to forum threads, for which many thanks!

I am trying to persuade La Musee de l'Air et La Space to let me see their reserve collection of props, which I believe contains several German props; but I can't get them to answer, either!!

With regards,

Bob

hallo bob,
just got a french document about captured albatros D Va and they give a garuda with 275 diameter pitch 197 no 14 437 and probably of more interest for you a axial 277 diameter. the document is extremly faded but it could be a no 6896 tp 95. if this makes any sense.
the engine is described as a 160 hp no 31 102 again the document is a bit hard to read .
good luck with the french museum.
cheers

Koloman,

Do you know the number of this aircraft?

I have about fifteen records of similar Axial props. The TP 95 was used on both the Albatros D III and D V. Diameters vary slightly. Most D III's had a 2770mm diameter; and the DV's used 2780mm. This is the first 2770 DV prop that I have recorded.

With regards,

Bob

I have one previous record of a Garuda prop for the Albatros D Va with D 2800 and St 2000. It was on an aircraft shot down by the British on 18 December 1917, 5390/17. It had eight laminations, 4 walnut, 2 mahogany, 1 maple and 1 birch.

Although Garuda was a major maker, comparatively few of their props have survived. I have records of their props for the Albatri D II and D III; and the B I, C III and C XII.

Many thanks,

Bob

Albatross props

hello Mr Gardner, I'm the author of the faded documents of Koloman.
The pics comes from STAč report of march 1918. I could not be more precize because some page are missing and some other were damaged in a PC failure.
I hope I will be able to recollect these documents in next mounths.

I have
-a D.III 2096 with engine 31274 and propeller pas 2,77m mod. Axial (Berlin) 6896 B1.220 TP95
-a D.V engine 31102, no engine s/n propeller, diam 2,75 pas 1,97 larguer de pale 176 serie DRP 14437

pics are faded for climatical situations (was my last afternoon in Italy and it was hailing.... so not the best conditions to take pics)
If you are interested I can send you immediatly the worst copies and the better ones hopefully in 1-1,5 mounths.

May I ask you a copy of eventual info about italian and/or italian service frech aircraft propeller informations?
Thanks in advance

Hello Paulo,

I would love copies of these documents. There are lots of e-mail links to me on my website. Click on the link below. I don't want to put my e-mail address in this reply. I have enough spam as it is.

And thanks for the info.

I plan to produce a book on Italian propellers eventually but at the moment I have little information. I have just published the first part of my book on German props. Producing parts 2 and 3 will take another six months. Then I will produce one on Austrian props. A lot of information has come from Koloman. Then perhaps French propellers. And finally Italian props, if I last that long!

If you have any data on Italian props please send it to me if you can. It will be eventually be included in the book.

With regards to Italy. It is raining, as ever, in England.

Bob
