Hannover CL. IIIa

I found a very old post from Dan San Abbott - so the outside is relativly clear. But the inside of the Hannover?

I think the fuselage was wood - wasn't it? So I believe it is naturally or clear painted - right?

The more I get to know about Hannover's the mor I get confused.

There was a dutch model builder, started Airfix' CL.IIIa some days in the past.

Compared Airfix' Color Instruction and the picture of the real plane, I'm not shure if there is a change in the used colors for the fuselage lozenge.

Four-color-lozenge (Vierfarbtarnung) I do agree. But in my view there is either greyish violett or khaki yellow. One blue two greens an one light color. What is your opinion?

My Gallery
Han.Cl.IIIa fuselage colors.

Rapier;
The colors used on the irregular polygons on the fuselage, center-section, lower stabilizer, styruts and wheel covers were: dull blue, 23D4; greyish magenta, 14D3; greyish turquoise, 24E4; dull green, 28D4 and dark blonde, 5D4. I would presume the interior surfaces were shellacked and varnished or painted light grey or pale greyish green, which seems to be a common interior color. This may have been specified by IdFlieg.
Blue skies,
Dan-San

Thanks a lot, Dan San Abbott. And for the other useful posts to the Hannoverana-topic in the past. It took me quite a while to search this whole forum.

First of all - it will be the 1/72 Airfix kit, user "blimp" let it to me. With Pegasus' 1/72-Lozenge-Decals.

In my opinion the kit is a good base, worth detailing. I don't know if it matches the original 100%. The Windsock Datafile #23 ist temporarely not availlable in Germany, so the internet ist my source. There i found the linked thread of the dutch modeller, which ist useful for me, although I can't read dutch.

The polygons on the fuselage are said to be irregular. I don't believe they are field applied (free hand painted). But was there a spray-mask used? Continuity? I believe to see regular parts (like immitated chords of fabric).

This time a have to scrap the lozenge from the plywood-covered center part of the upper wing. I was too fast, too enthusiastic.

Thansk for the metuen-code. I will google for it's FS or RAL standart, other colors aren't at my stock. If there aren't any - mixing. I think a proper match to Pegasus will to the job.

Aren't the wheels fabric-covered?

So interior clear plywood, this will be the start of the fuselage. I will open a thread at Modelling. It don't want to bother the non-modellers with my questions here. Feel free to post there.

My Gallery
Han.Cl.IIIa fuselage colors.

Rapier:
The camouflage was applied at the Hannover factory and was spray painted.
It was as important to weatherproof the fuselage as the outside surfaces. I have not seen a real good interior photo of the fuselage, in order to determine if the interior was shellacked and varnished, or if it was painted. I think they must of had some design to go by in their camouflage scheme, otherwise it would be chaotic.
The wheels were covered with printed fabric.
If you have the available funds, $80, I would recommend getting a copy of SCHLACHTFLIEGER!, by Rick Duiven & Dan-San Abbott, It is the history of Air/Ground support, (Invented by German pilots) ISBN 0-7643-2441-1, Schiffer Publishing Ltd. In Europe, Bushwood Books, e-mail www.bushwoodbooks.co.uk> .
There are three view drawings of all the aircraft used by the Schutzstaffeln and the Schlachtstaffeln. Also 18 pages in color of the Schusta and Schlasta aircraft in profile. There are also multi-view drawings in color of the Halb.Cl.II, Halb.Cl.IV, Han.Cl.II, Cl.III and Cl.IIIa.
Blue skies,
Dan-San
