shot down on 14 october 1918 between Gulleghem and Moorseele

an extract from "the history of the Royal Irish Riffles" :
date : 14 october 1918
......It had accomplished one feat very rare in the war’s history, bringing down by rifle fire a German aeroplane, of which the occupants, an officer and a sergeant-major, were captured.

an extract from the war diaries from the 1st Btn Royal Irish Rifles :
..... Attacked again at 5pm but only made 200 yards. Casualties 22 killed, 92 wounded and 8 missing. Brought down reconnaissance aircraft and captured crew.
14/15th October: Spent night 300 yards west of Gulleghem. Attacked again at 9am (15th Oct)

Any idea what plane was shot down ? WHo were the 2 men ?

Regards,
BArt

Thanks for the info.
It could be correct : Moorslede is not that far away from the place were the Irish Riffles were that time.

Do you know if other planes went down that day, and the day after ?

regards.

If you hanga around long enough, you'll end up with more books than you can possibly ever read, but there are a few that that you should absolutely have.

Schlachtflieger is one of them.

Schlachtflieger! by Rick Duiven and & Dan-San Abbott - Schifferbooks.com

Thanks again to Rick and Dan San for getting this one into print.

thanks for the inf.

I know about the books : I'm trying to collect all information about a 2-day battle. I started about a year ago with just one page, listing the names of 43 soldiers KIA in my village in oktober 1918. Now I have a couple of big files, a couple of books, maps......; and it looks I'm not at the end yet.
Respect for those researching 4 years of war history.

regards,
