Breguet's Aircraft ID Challenge Records: Aeroplanes 1914 - 1918 - Breguet's Aircraft Challenge --
The rules :
The thread title must be "Breguet's aircraft ID challenge #......"
The score board, link and rules must be copied to the beginning and end of each thread so that we know where we are.
All aircraft are of the 14-18 period (ie either designed, built or left the ground during this period but must have flown/left the ground at some stage ie before during or after the period).
The photo must show the whole aircraft - from whatever angle, or at least 2 views of a 3 view drawing (photo by preference).
Challenges which depict a machine already earlier presented are disqualified
(always check the list at earlyaviator.com/br.challenge when in doubt !)
Once someone has got 5 correct answers under their belt they become an ACE. Once they become an ACE they must wait 12hrs after the posting of the new challenge before they can post an answer.
To be eligible for correct ID an answer must include at least one characteristic of the aircraft that helped in its identification.
The first person to ID the challenge correctly gets to post the next challenge. If this can not be done for any reason Breguet himself will post the next challenge.
If there is any doubt as to the eligibility of an aircraft for the challenge details should be PM'd to Breguet BEFORE the aircraft is submitted.
The final arbitor in relation to questions about the rules will be Breguet.

Northern Aviatik Type 12 Rudder shape fits, and it seems to be twin-engined. I should add that it is Swedish, and a similar picture is in Jane's

You just found it!
This is Nordiska Aviatik Bolagets (NAB) Type 12. American roots is evident - this is copy of Twin JN with floats. I thought to post the picture from Janes that you found but later discover this article: NAB12
As I understood swedish language, it was tested in june 1918.

A nice challenge - I had not been able to find anything on Northern Aviatik machines except what was in Jane's. Now, what were the other 11 types?
My challenge this evening.

The N.A.B. Type 12 had a tragic end.
Quote:
When the Finnish civil war broke out in January 1918 it created a new market for NAB, which previously had only delivered to the Swedish state. Primarily through donations and collections in Sweden, Finland was able to buy the NAB Type 12 machine in March 1918.
The machine was equipped with two 110 hp Scania Vabis engines and flown to Furusund June 9, 1918 for testing. On June 28, 1918 it started on its delivery flight from Djursholm to Turku in Finland. Pilot was testpilot Krokstedt accompanied by managing director Cederström. A course was set over the Sea of Åland.
The plane never arrived - Krokstedt and Cederström were lost without any trace. Wreck pieces of the aircraft were found, but no survivors were found.

Translated (freely) from the Swedish.
By the way other types of N.A.B. were Type 9 and Type 17, both licence built Albatros biplanes, both waiting in the wings to be displayed in a coming Challenge (kidding ).
Cheers
Kees

On one of the forums somewhere in the internet I found this info about other types:
Quote:
Nordiska Aviatik AB (NAB) was formed in 1916 by Carl Cederström and Lars Fjällbäck, who had left Södertelge Verkstäders Aviatikavdelning (SW).
Three types of aircraft were built:
NAB 9 (copy of Albatros B.II) - nine built 1917-1918
NAB 12 (licence Curtiss Twin JN on floats) - one built 1918
NAB 17 fighter (constructor Lars Fjällbäck) - one built 1918
A number of projects remained unbuilt:
NAB 10 (possibly the designation of a twin engined passenger plane)
NAB 11 (licence Curtiss Twin JN)
NAB 13 (modified copy of Albatros B.II)
NAB 14 (NAB 13 on floats)
NAB 15 (possibly the designation of a modified Curtiss H-4 to be built under licence)
NAB 16 (twin engined floatplane) unnamed: another modified copy of Albatros B.II (1918)
In 1921 NAB acted as agent for Soviet Russia who sought to buy De Havilland DH 9s from England and ex-German Mercedes engines from Sweden.
