My Gallery
Thank You

Thanks Bruno for that very complete thread.

Your English is fine. Certainly much more skillful than my French !

I have four photos of this aircraft - all of which are of the same quality as the one I posted - not very good !

I would be happy to send along copies of them via email or CD if you would like.

Feel free to post a PM if you are interested.

Keep at it,
Mike

Pete Grosz said that it was "captured by the French at Verdun and extensively tested by the Section Technique de l'Aeronautique (StAe)."
Does anyone know who the German crew were ? R.

Alb. 1388/16

While looking in an Albatros Datafile I found this serial number, 1388/16, listed under Albatros C V. Which is correct? Was this a mixed batch?

I think you got the wrong link in your post.

My question wasn't about aircraft identification, it was about serial number assignment. If one document led the authors of whichever datafile I was reading to believe that serial range 1371/16 to 1420/16 was assigned to a contract for Albatros CV planes, how did an Albatros CIII get the 1388/16 serial?

Bison

Grosz states the following
C.1225/16 - C.1250/16 C.VII (26)
C.1251/16 - C.1275/16 C.V (25)
C.1276/16 - C.1374/16 C.VII (99)
Don't know his sources, but his reputation comes with the territory, so what proof do you have??

Alien
If you look at the two digits after the slash in your Datafile you will see that your C.V 1388 is in fact /17 and NOT /16

Cheers
Stig

Dear Stig,

My dear late friend Pete Grosz did the best with the information that was available to him, and his work is usually unimpeachable. He was a very careful historian.

I know Bufallo, and he worked closely with Pete before he died. Bufallo has continued his very precise and meticulous research into German aircraft serial number ranges, based on the collecting of thousands of bits of data from company archives, unit records, photos, etc. - and added to the body of knowledge begun by Pete. If you look close you'll see there's not that much discrepancy at all between Pete's list and Bufallo's. I am sure you can take Bufallo's word on this subject to the bank.
