James A. Pratt III:
If you have a typing program like MS Word all you have to do is go to Insert on the top menu and there should be a option for Symbols (most programs will have this), click on Symbol. This will open an small window were you will find these symbols that your looking for like Ö Ü ë ü.....you can change the font to give you different styles.
Hope this helps out...
Lloyd...

And - if all this technique does not help:
use "ae" for ä, "ue" for ü, "oe" for ü and "ss" for ß
Be grateful that we don´t use runes any longer

Hi James,
You can use these if you like:
Ä ä Ö ö Ü ü äöü ô
TAZ gave them to me and my son put them on a tool bar for me.
I just sent an email with them and any updates to myself!
I hope this helps.
Best Wishes, Jay

The following keystrokes are supposed to work:
ä = Alt+0228
Ä = Alt+0196
ö = Alt+0246
Ö = Alt+0214
ü = Alt+0252
Ü = Alt+0220
ß = Alt+0223
They don't work for me. I have to use Character Map. It used to be included with Windows. I don't know if it is in the latest versions.

James A. Pratt III,
The simplest method could be saving the letters that Tom posted in a file, so that you could copy and paste them as needed.
If you use a Windows operating system, they have a program called Notepad that is useful for things like this. To open it click on Start -> Programs (or All Programs in later versions) -> Accessories -> Notepad. - Go to Tom's post.
- Select the German letters and copy them using Ctrl+C.
- Paste them into Notepad using Ctrl+V.
- Save the file as German Letters.txt in a convenient location (You do not need to add the .txt at the end of the name. Notepad will do this for you).
When you need German letters for your article: - Open German letters.txt.
- Select and copy (Ctrl+C) the letter you want.
- Paste (Ctrl+V) it into your document.
